Though the enduring appeal of LaMelo Ball shoes and the newly-revealed Hali 1 make PUMA’s basketball division a bustling vertical in its own right, as things stand, clearly the Big Cat’s buzziest silhouettes are the Speedcat and the Mostro. The brand’s recent moves with regard to the latter have been focused on sheer versatility, again the case as Slam Jam brings their creative touch to two PUMA Mostro colorways.
Outfitted in leather a la some of the silhouette’s debut looks in 2024, Slam Jam’s presence is felt in the “Debossed” sub-head that this build carries. Sharp indented panels spread across the quarter and vamp, adding visual depth to colorways that rely on comprehensive, minimalist palettes. Outside of that structural change and the all-over visual choices, many of the traditional Mostro hallmarks remain, including the spiky traction underfoot, fabric straps on the lateral sides. Injecting their branding in subtle fashion, Slam Jam’s logo makes just one appearance on a triangular panel overlooking the laces.
At the time of publication, no official word from PUMA or Slam Jam has come down on this Mostro collection’s official date. However, retailers that have listed pairs early attach a July 7th release date. We’ll keep this article and our Sneaker Release Dates page updated as clearer details emerge, but for now, peruse galleries of both pairs below.
