Nike SB P-Rod 1 “Black/Varsity Red” IM7147-001

by thesneakerscroll@gmail.com

Y2K aesthetics may be currently dominant in footwear, but it wasn’t until the re-release of the Nike SB P-Rod 1 that one of the era’s most beloved models hit the shelves anew. Reissuing the white leather original in May paid off the 20th anniversary in characteristically commemorative fashion, but it would seem that the train isn’t stopping with just one colorway.

Indeed, in-hand images of an additional OG pair have begun circulating as the follow-up to that shimmering debut pair, rehashing the black/red/grey/white suede edition that better represents the traditional skate shoe build the model took on in its GR pairs. The quilted pattern, a defining aspect of the P-Rod 1 both in its initial run and two decades in, remains in this pair, displaying the “R” monogram with glossy leather at the heel. Overall, nearly no changes are made from the 2000s variation, ensuring that Rodriguez’s monumental footwear legacy is revisited true-to-form.

Expect the Nike SB P-Rod 1 in “Black/Varsity Red” to receive the same SNKRS rollout as the “White/Black,” retailing for $115. Perhaps indicating that a release is coming sooner than later, Rodriguez himself seemingly began teasing this colorway about a week before this publication.
