The Nike ZoomX AlphaFly 3 Harkens Back To The Sting From 1978

by thesneakerscroll@gmail.com

Nike has never been shy about reminding consumers of their impact on the sport of running, a passion that played no small part in bringing the company to the global dominance it now enjoys. However, special attention to that journey continues to crop up in the brand’s current wave of “super shoes,” pulling from wide-ranging milestones in the archive for commemorative colorways.

Next up in this series is the Nike ZoomX AlphaFly 3, reaching back to Nike’s The Sting, an early performance model released in the 1970s. What the nascent silhouette lends most clearly to its max-cushioned descendant is the green and orange combination that originally lived on its nylon build. Generally speaking, this shoe, perhaps fittingly, follows the similar hybrid between the Vaporfly and the Pre-Montreal, most visible with the pre-aged cushioning underfoot. Sadly, the D-ring eye-ley innovations from the OG sting don’t make it onto this design, but the homage to a simpler era is abundantly clear all the same in this next-gen proposition.

The Nike ZoomX AlphaFly 3 “The Sting” will likely hit Nike.com in the coming months as a part of the Fall 2025 slate, retailing for $295.
