The sneaker that made color gradients a mainstay in lifestyle footwear is back with another take on the original that started all.
Sean McDowell’s groundbreaking Air Max Plus made instant waves with the fiery hot yellow-to-orange fade, emanating the warmth of the morning light on the high-tech runner. From that point on, that use of color has become a standard not only in Nike’s running product, but across the industry.
Since this Tuned Air classic has gone on to become a global hit for over two decades, Nike has not been shy with utilizing the gradient on the upper, often relying on more than two colors to achieve a new look. This upcoming release circles back to the original pair from 1998, instead applying the “Sunrise” to the external caging; from top to bottom of the lava-like fluid exoskeleton, yellow raises the temp to a hot orange on the base, with the same gradient appearing at the midfoot.
This Air Max Plus is expected to launch this Fall/Winter ’25 season for $180; see the official images just ahead.
