Virgil Abloh Off White Nike Cryoshot Sample

The Virgil Abloh Archive has announced a series of new additions to Virgil Abloh: The Codes exhibit at Paris’ Grand Palais. Opening September 30 and running through October 10th, the display features a previously unseen pair of Off-White™ Nike football Boots.

Sprayed all-over white and red, at first glance they look like streetwear-ready sneakers. But up close, the silhouette references a series of Nike Tiempo football cleats — part of the brand’s long-running boot series formerly worn by the likes of Ronaldinho.

Details like Abloh’s signature zip-tie and Helvetica in quotation marks, along with industrial accents, make the overall silhouette distinctively his own.

Nike actually released a model this year with a similar silhouette, dubbed the Cryoshot. Could this be a connection? Did Abloh’s design influence the model, or perhaps both shoes were in development at the same time?

Virgil Abloh: The Codes will be on view at the Grand Palais until October 10th.
