With all the talk about Sneaker of the Year following ComplexCon, it’s worth taking a moment to remember one of the standout collaborations from last year. Daniel Buezo and Weleh Dennis — co-founders of Kids of Immigrants — delivered a Nike Air Max Sunder duo that checked every box: a fresh brand, a sharp design, and an underrated model that’s rarely been tapped for collaborations.
In addition to the two publicly released pairs, there’s a third version that many sneaker sleuths have noticed — a grey Friends & Family edition that Buezo has been seen wearing and sharing online. While there are still no plans for a public release, Kids of Immigrants is hosting a unique giveaway.
Encouraging fans to “pay it forward,” the brand is asking people to nominate someone in their life who motivates and uplifts the sneaker community. Winners will be notified on November 6th, and KOI is trusting that recipients will actually gift the sneakers to their nominees.
The sneaker features the same grid-like detailing found on the public pairs, but the colorway is more understated and arguably more wearable — built with a Concrete Sky base and a Diffused Blue gradient on the TPU cage. Yellow and hot pink accents around the collar give it a subtle Nike ACG vibe, complemented by rope laces and generous KOI x Nike co-branding throughout.
