The true style icon of athletic footwear, the Air Force 1 has persisted through every arena of fashion to become the most iconic sneaker of all-time. The AF1 trend has come and gone more than once, and if there’s one thing the AF1 is capable, is perserverance.
This upcoming release is a literal depiction of all that it’s been through. Keeping to the same ’82 silhouette create by Bruce Kilgore, Nike dresses up this Air Force 1 in super-durable canvas uppers, but it doesn’t leave the surface pristine. In fact, there are some areas of faux repair via external stitching on the toe-box and heel, speaking to the toughness of the sneaker. Then, Nike adds a canvas bandage strips that run through the tongue and down the heel. The toebox also adds a bit of subtle armor, covering the sunburst-shaped perforations at the toe-box with x-marked stitch lines to add further insulation.
You might’ve seen a recent Air Max 90 carry these same exterior properties; perhaps Nike is communicating that their footwear icons are ready to go toe-to-toe with any retro and modern trend in the footwear game.
