Throughout Air Jordan history, particularly over the last quarter century in the post-retirement era, many new designs drew references from models of the past through abstract representations of key elements. The Air Jordan 40 isn’t trying to be subtle with this ongoing series, because these are borderline hybrids that we must admit are executed to perfection.

Utilizing the fortieth model as the chassis, Jordan’s design team transported models of years prior onto the upper by perfectly transplanting defining elements. For example, the Air Jordan 4016 featured the midnight navy patent leather toe and removable gaiter seen on the Air Jordan, while the yet-to-release Air Jordan 4023 borrowed the tapestry of the XX3 onto the upper. Of the models that we’ve seen, the response has been magical.

Looking to the future, we’ve got the Air Jordan 4020 and 4028 in focus; the former features the Air Jordan XX’s thick midfoot strap on the upper, giving us a visualization of the past model without the quirky halo-like ankle straps. Now, we’re getting a look at the Air Jordan 4028 captured by the fold-down zippered shroud that reveals the 2 and 3 on the inner flaps. Inside is a bright green build, similar to the launch colorway of the Air Jordan XX8.

Release date information for the Air Jordan 4028 has not been revealed, so stay tuned to our Jordan Release Dates page for the latest.
