Known around the world for his signature shrunken grey suit, New York menswear icon Thom Browne is stepping into the realm of sportswear with his first ever sneaker collaboration in 2026. The canvas is one befitting of the occasion, one of the most significant models of the 2020s in the ubiquitous ASICS GEL-Kayano 14.
Debuted during Thom Browne’s Fall 2026 runway show in San Francisco just ahead of Super Bowl LX, the collection consists of three colorways: black, white, and of course, Browne’s signature grey. New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, an ambassador for ASICS’ Sportstyle division, took time out of his pre-Super Bowl prep to model the grey colorway, naturally matching it with a grey jacket and dress shorts.
The collection features shared qualities alongside key differences, tied together by a consistent use of thick leather piping across the overlays. The grey pair comes with perforated suede underlays, while the black and white appear to feature mesh. Thom Browne’s iconic red, white, and blue stripe motif appears sporadically across the pack, namely on the pull tabs, tongue strips, and insoles.
Some might say the GEL-Kayano 14 is the sneaker that started the retro runner wave, returning from the ASICS archives in 2020 and giving steam to the movement through a number of key collaborations. This isn’t the first time the GEL-Kayano 14 has skewed formal thanks to an outside party, preceded by equally classy takes by Comme des Garçons, JJJJound, and A.P.C. to name a few. There’s something to be said about an iconic fashion brand dropping its first ever sneaker collaboration, but even in a vacuum, there’s no denying these are plenty compelling. Early social media chatter suggest these might be hard to cop at retail.
