Nike is formally bringing JuJu Watkins deeper into its basketball ecosystem with the unveiling of the LeBron NXXT Gen by JuJu “Silver Lining” colorway. The release signals how drastically NIL has reshaped Nike’s approach to young talent, allowing the brand to invest in elite players well before they reach the pros. Watkins, already one of the most hyped prospects in women’s basketball, continues to fast-track her relationship with Nike after debuting a USC-themed GT Cut 3 Turbo PE last year.
This latest project is more significant, as Watkins becomes the first athlete to design within the LeBron NXXT Gen platform. The updated model blends flexible leather and TPU on the upper with a React midsole and forefoot Zoom Air unit, while personal details — including a jewel Swoosh, quilted floral accents, and a “By JuJu” tongue graphic — give the shoe a distinct signature feel. The “Silver Lining” colorway nods to her Watts roots, subtly referencing the neighborhood’s iconic Watts Towers.
Beyond a single sneaker, Nike appears to be positioning the LeBron NXXT Gen line as a gateway for the next generation of stars. Watkins is the first to step into that role, but likely not the last, suggesting a thoughtful transition plan as LeBron James eventually phases out of the spotlight.
