Cue up the Jason Williams mixtapes. “White Chocolate,” one of the most electric and inventive point guards of the early 2000s, is officially back with Nike (per Nick DePaula). The timing is no coincidence.
Nike is gearing up to release Jason Williams’ Nike Hyperflight PE from his Sacramento Kings days, positioning the drop as the centerpiece of a larger retro run for the model’s 25th anniversary. What’s more is Williams is reportedly set to host a Nike SNKRS launch event in Los Angeles for All-Star Weekend.
Fans remember Williams for his elite playmaking, no-look dimes, and the kind of swagger that earned him one of the coldest nicknames in hoops history. He’s stepped back into the spotlight post-retirement through the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, where he breaks down today’s game and shares stories from his career, including candid tales about outworking his college teammates despite smoking weed every day.
Williams entered the league with Nike before making the jump to AND1 in 2003, lacing up a variety of Swoosh models during his early run. None hit quite like the Hyperflight. Marketed at the time as Nike Basketball’s lightest performance shoe, the sleek silhouette fit Williams’ up-tempo style perfectly, capped off by a purple patent leather PE stamped with his #55. The recent success of Deion Sanders shoes shows there’s real upside in reconnecting with former athlete partners. Williams might not command Prime Time levels of attention, but this reunion feels like one worth watching.
