Right now, LaMelo Ball is focused on family. In less opaque terms, the Fast and Furious partnership that brings together his PUMA MB.05, LaFrance, LaFrance RNR, and Speedcat is the Big Cat’s grand prize at All-Star Weekend, but not everything they have in store has a licensing deal attached.
Indeed, ASW in LA will also prove a launchpad for the very first PUMA MB.05 Lo. That overall shortened development isn’t too much of a shock; each of his signature styles so far has taken a chopdown at some point in its run, with the MB.03 and MB.04 doing so about half a year after their market debut. With the MB.05 currently five full months into its run, it’s high time for the silhouette to start thinking breezier.
What is unexpected is how the PUMA MB.05 embraces that “Lo” lifestyle. While previous pairs were visible as a simple cutdown, removing some collar height to befit a shortened build, the MB.05 Lo has to do some real remodeling to match; parallel slits define the lace unit, while a new mesh collar anchors the topmost laces. Branching geometry in the spaces beyond in the upper also marks a change from the usual MB.05. However, we will note that this silhouette, more than most, has changed patterns in the upper from colorway to colorway; this could be a one-time shift for this pink-on-black “LA” colorway.
Reportedly, Foot Locker’s space in LA for All-Star Weekend will be the exclusive source for the PUMA MB.05 Lo. However, in a situation you’re likely familiar with if you’ve been with us for some time, official brand imagery loading on their servers muddies the waters a bit. We’d bet that a wide launch via PUMA and retailers will follow in the weeks to come. Either way, retail pricing for this pair is confirmed at $120.
