Chris Gibbs and Hiroshi Fujiwara didn’t just become acquaintances. Two of the Jumpman’s foremost collaborative partners, the pair’s relationship stretches all the way back to the ’90s, making it arguably a bigger shock that it’s taken this long for their vaunted design touches to come together.
Recent interviews and comments have revealed that the three pair format was intentionally, spanning one shoe designed by Gibbs of Union, one by Fujiwara of Fragment, and one designed by both together. The Fragment Union Air Jordan 1 “Black/Royal” is Chris’ baby, a merger of the “Neutral Grey” and “Royal” colorways in another “swap meet” concept he’s explored thoroughly with his label’s solo work. In a particularly historical touch, marled multi-color laces utilized on the 1985 pairs, with the “Royal” shouted out via the slight purple hits shown here.
