Someone bring me my Elite socks. Kevin Durant is the owner of one of the longest-running signature lines in Nike Basketball history, and in the sub-line’s peak era in the 2010s, the Slim Reaper’s designs were red hot. All that in place, it was only a matter of time before the Swoosh started digging in his archives for modern releases. During his Golden State run, they flirted with a KD 4 retro before earnestly embarking on one beginning in 2024; the KD 6 earns the series’ second-ever retro with the “All-Star.”
Minted f0r New Orleans’ All-Star Weekend in 2014, it’s an unabashed embrace of the “Gumbo League” theme that also spread onto the Kobe 9, LeBron 11, and a range of non-signature hoops shoes. The stained glass theming consistent throughout all of them inspires the sectioned arrangement of the KD 6’s traction, while abstract, weighty patterns overcome the uppers and sock-liners. A swampy palette contrasted with “Green Glow” highlights within the toothed midsole and Swoosh/KD branding close out. If you’re planning on using these for their stated purpose rather than busting out the joggers with your new pair, top-loaded Zoom Air and Phylon cushioning remain, as does the FlyWire containment in the uppers.
