We’ll shelve discussion of who the king of sneakers in hip-hop is, but for years, Wale was unquestionably the most significant name in the space that didn’t have a collaboration to back up that status. He would eventually remedy that by taking his talents to the ASICS GEL-Lyte III with mainstay Villa, but the DMV icon’s love for the Swoosh couldn’t be overlooked even amid flirtations with other brands.
After the sneaker world’s most gripping “will they won’t they,” Nike and Wale finally linked up with the Nike Air Foamposite “DMV,” before he was anointed as the unofficial face of a futuristic, Foam-like new silhouette. Eventually, the Nike GT Future was revealed, and the recording artist even earned an earnest collab on the Air Max Goadome, but the connection to the hoops silhouette remains steadfast.

In some post-drop promo for his “everything is a lot” record, Wale revealed a new “Hyper Pink” version of the GT Future, applying neon pink across the molded upper and bracketing with tasteful black trim. In previous colorways he’s debuted, releases have come far down the road, so we can’t back on a quick turnaround here. Still, we’d be remiss to not mention the similarities to the recently revealed GT Cut 4 “Kay Yow,” potentially a sibling of that style.
