Early-2000s football nostalgia continues to influence modern footwear design, and Nike’s latest crossover taps directly into that era. Drawing from the pitch while staying rooted in streetwear, the Nike Air Max 90 “Total 90 Laser” channels the visual identity of one of Nike’s most memorable soccer boots.
Taking inspiration by the Total 90 Laser “Zest” cleats of players like Luís Figo and Wayne Rooney, the attacking design language found within that shoe’s strike-zone makes its way onto this staple Air Max silhouette.
The footwear maxes out on yellow throughout the upper, mudguard, and midsole, while black overlays and mesh accents add contrast throughout the forefoot and eyestay.
Across the toe area, molded radial graphics recreate the signature strike zone pattern seen on Rooney’s boots. This plastic forefoot overlay becomes the defining visual element, adding texture and movement while giving the silhouette a subtle performance influence rarely seen on the Air Max 90.
Secondary branding elements also follow suit. A black Swoosh slashes across the lateral panel, “Air Max” text pops near the heel, and red Nike branding appears on the tongue. The heel tab reads “total ninety,” reinforcing the football lineage behind the design.
Underfoot, the familiar Air Max midsole houses visible Air cushioning, while a translucent outsole reveals graphic elements tied to the Total 90 concept.
This pair also arrives as a timely nod to global football culture, with the design created to celebrate the 2026 World Cup and the sport’s lasting influence on Nike’s performance heritage.
