Kevin Durant and Nike are expanding their influence beyond the NBA with a new initiative focused on the next generation of athletes. Through his media company Boardroom, Durant recently introduced Team KD, a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) platform created in partnership with the University of Texas, Durant’s alma mater.
The program aims to support student-athletes both on and off the court. Texas athletes selected for Team KD will receive exclusive player-edition footwear and apparel tied to Durant’s Nike signature line. The first athlete announced is Texas women’s basketball standout Madison Booker, who debuted the classic KD 6 “Peanut Butter & Jelly” while representing the program.
However, the initiative goes beyond traditional endorsement deals. Team KD is also designed to provide educational opportunities in sports business. Durant and the University of Texas plan to host an annual sports business summit, open to Texas student-athletes as well as students studying sports management and business. The event will focus on teaching participants about branding, partnerships, and career development within the sports industry.
The first summit is expected to take place later in 2026, marking the beginning of what could become a long-term platform connecting athletes with business and mentorship opportunities.
While the project is just getting started, Team KD signals Durant’s continued effort to invest in future talent. By combining NIL opportunities, exclusive Nike gear, and business education, the program aims to give Texas athletes tools that extend far beyond their college careers. As the initiative grows, additional athletes and expanded programming are likely to follow.
