New Balance’s Made in USA series doesn’t necessarily need any narrative backing; the enduring ethos of the sub-brand, where seasonal colorways drape haughty material make-ups, is plenty capable of moving product in its own right. Yet as always, storytelling can be a pathway to bring any given shoe or set of shoes to the next level, something that the Boston brand has already seen with a developing “DMV” set for the New Balance 993.
One half of this capsule, the New Balance 993 “Baltimore,” has already been on some shelves since the end of last year. However, designer Myles Williams only revealed the geographic narrative about a week before this article, showing off reference photos that demonstrate how this pair’s sprightly appearance takes from the purplish hues of the National Mall at dusk.

Now, studio images of the New Balance 993 “DC” earnestly come to light, blending up a tricolor split of pale pink foundations, rich purple suede overlays, and light blue trim in the spaces between. On top of adding some prideful edge to these two colorways, they’re genuine steps outside of the naturally-shaded fare that defines the MiUSA oeuvre, all the more reason we’re watching this two-pack.
As mentioned earlier, the New Balance 993 “Baltimore” has been on offer via retailer channels for a bit; the “DC” seems to be following suit, already appearing at select boutiques. A joint drop via NewBalance.com is likely in the works. A $200 retail price is confirmed.
