Avirex, while unquestionably a venerated heritage brand, has flipped that legacy into becoming a defining face of streetwear once again. Worn by hip-hop royalty in New York City throughout the 1990s, the brand has found new life in partnership, with their jackets bearing the stamps of everyone from KITH to Palace to Hellstar.
In the realm of footwear, they’ve found their chief partner in adidas, pulling in their history in the Big Apple for a long-tongue version of the adidas Superstar in October 2025. Utilizing their favorite material in heavy doses throughout the iconic Shelltoe construction, Avirex now returns for an inverted take on the same concept, pinning that jumbo-sized hardware on the iconic white-on-black colorway that the Superstar has championed for decades. White trim and oversized laces close out what’s otherwise a simplistically styled collab.
Beyond just the shoes themselves, Avirex paid special attention to the principals in that October campaign, enlisting Joey Badass and model/DJ MJ to model the brighter counterpart. For this chapter, it’s St. John’s Ian Jackson and DJ Nyla Symone on tap, foregrounding the basketball spirit with this follow-up effort.
