Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has helped uplift Converse’s modern design team with the continuing dominance of the SHAI 001. Yet much as the reigning MVP brings attention to later stage designs, the Chuck Taylor remains the guiding light for the brand. Recently having taken its core DNA and brought it into vintage, slim-soled, and updated runner directions, the “elevated” vein of the erstwhile hoops model lives on with the Converse First String series.
Part of what’s allowed the Chuck Taylor to reach iconic status is for its simplistic construction, but the First String flips that on its head. Premium materials and updated tech, including CX Foam midsoles and an embedded Nike Air unit, help the shoe approach a true luxury innovation. That’s an apt descriptor as the first launch of 2026 hits the ‘net, flexing further experimentation texture. A black leather edition may skew understated, but that’s where that ends; reptilian snake and croc applications round out this trio, with the former sneaking flashy silver accents on top of that material overhaul.
This second delivery of the Converse First String collection releases on March 24th, dropping exclusively via partnering boutiques. Given past releases, expect all three colorways to check in at $250.
