New Balance earned its seat at the table this decade for its longstanding mesh and suede runners, and a new flank of throwback editions that revive their performance work of the 2000s. Now in the inner circle of street-valid sneaker brands, there’s nary a trend nor type of footwear that the Boston brand doesn’t support, including some off-the-beaten-path embraces we’ve gotten familiar with in the past few years.

The New Balance Allerdale is likely first up in that conversation of unexpected silhouettes, an internal “doubling down” that saw them take their fortitude in dad shoes and get even older and even more comfort-first in response. The walking shoe has now been a part of the fold for just about a calendar year, and over that span, it has stuck around in refined aesthetic territory. The “Turkish Coffee” at hand doesn’t stray from that formula, fitted with rich brown suede uppers, a similarly chocolatey sole unit, and cream leather collars.
