The V.A.A. Air Jordan 1 Is Releasing At More Stores Than Expected

A shoe teased, hinted at, and in dubious release standing at various points throughout, the Virgil Abloh Archive x Air Jordan 1 is finally upon us. Following a seven-stop run of major city activations, the official global launch via the V.A.A. is in the rear view, though a host of retailer raffles and launches are still to come, leaving plenty of bites at the apple for this revitalization of the iconic designer’s Air Jordan 1 “Alaska.”

Official images of the vaunted collaboration have now touched down, potentially adding some additional intrigue into that release cadence. First and foremost, it does drop off the authoritative look at the pair in general; a solid box with circular cutouts encases an additional pull-out layer, further stuffed with a booklet reliving pieces of Abloh’s design process. The zip-tie motif returns in light blue, while the eventual Louis Vuitton head’s industrial text influences “VAA” stamps on the lateral, “SHOELACES” spell-outs on white, grey, purple, and black lace options, and the iconic “AIR” on the midsole.

Long-time sneaker collectors and those familiar with the industry’s digital landscape know that official Nike images aren’t always confirmation of a SNKRS release. Famously, the Mars Yard 3.0 appeared in this manner, but barring a far belated restock, Tom Sachs’ design never hit the app.

However, as we sit smack in the middle of the earnest rollout for the Virgil Abloh Archive x Air Jordan 1, this does make a launch through Nike’s e-commerce a live possibility.
