Looking at the scope of all the various collaborators within sneakers, Ronnie Fieg has the clearest claim to the deepest register, having collected footwear brands in his orbit at a pace few can compare to. However, don’t count Comme des Garçons out of that discussion, supporting consistent and prolific drops with New Balance, ASICS, Converse, and Salomon.
Now spanning over two dozen individual shoes under their shared banner, the resounding motif in that group is the addition of molded platforms onto Salomon’s various trail runner silhouettes. Within those bounds, the Slip-On, SR811, Pulsar, XT-6, and Mary Jane designs have all gotten that treatment. No doubt, fashion-forward dressers on the women’s side remain the target for these exaggerated takes, which makes the XT-Whisper on tap here a natural fit. Positioned as a female-led proposition with both its collaborative efforts and within mainline marketing, the clashing design concept takes as well to the Whisper, draped in CDG’s everlasting all-black and all-white.
The Comme des Garçons Salomon XT-Whisper Void Platform in both colorways is available now via Dover Street Market London, where it clocks in with a £265 retail price. Stay tuned to find out if and when these hit DSM stateside and/or official Salomon channels.
