Opening day is officially here, and at least for the next several weeks, hope springs eternal across the league. For the San Diego Padres, the league-wide goal to unseat the Los Angeles Dodgers has some extra juice, fueled by a heated cross-town rivalry that’s popped in multiple moments over the past few years.
For whatever awaits the Padres in the coming season, Nike has a San Diego-steeped Air Max 1 in the works. Almost assuredly connected to the team’s leaked City Connect concept that brings Dia de los Muertos iconography onto an otherwise tropical-tinted kit, Tinker Hatfield’s design follows suit, most obviously with a floral skull graphic on the insoles. A host of multi-color panels flow out from there, creating a truly expressive overall palette even without the MLB ties. Yet to ensure that’s not lost in the mix, a shaggy suede exterior Swoosh carries team-specific tags, while an MLB lace lock sits at the midline.
Given that the NFL Air Max 90 collection mirrored this paired alternate uniform and lifestyle shoe motif, we’ll likely see more MLB x Nike Air Max 1 mashups hit the scene in the coming months. While we await firm release details, check out this San Diego Padres x Nike Air Max 1 via official images below.
