The Air Jordan 4028 Nods To A Performance Basketball Icon

The Air Jordan 40 stands as Jordan Brand’s most advanced performance model to date, combining top-tier materials and modern tech built for the highest level of play. As a 40th anniversary silhouette, it’s also leaned into heritage, tapping the sneakerhead side of things with a series of hybrid looks inspired by past models, including some we don’t often revisit. That includes the Air Jordan 4028, an ode to one of Tinker Hatfield’s more intriguing success stories, now set to arrive in a clean “Black/Metallic Gold” colorway.

Few sneakers are as visually polarizing yet universally respected for performance as the Air Jordan 28. Debuting a high, boot-like shroud around the collar, it was a bold and unconventional move from a design and marketing standpoint. Still, it quickly earned praise from players across all positions, thanks to elite traction, support, and responsiveness driven by Flight Plate technology. Speaking strictly in terms of on-court performance during its peak, the 28 belongs in the conversation among the best Air Jordans ever.

With the 4028, the nod is primarily aesthetic. The design reprises the AJ28’s high ankle casing, while the Air Jordan 40’s full-length ZoomX foam and Zoom Strobel setup does the heavy lifting underfoot. Two colorways have already surfaced, including a “Black/Barely Volt” edition as well as an upcoming Rui Hachimura PE. This latest pair keeps things simple, pairing a black upper with Metallic Gold branding.
