Steven Smith and Crocs used TEDxPortland to introduce a new silhouette called The Roy, a bold foam slip-on shaped with three oversized bands across the forefoot. The design arrives in a bright red finish that leans into the event’s visual identity while giving Crocs another futuristic model to build around. Smith’s role in the project makes the launch stand out even more, especially given his long history shaping influential footwear across multiple brands.
The TEDxPortland project also includes a matching red Classic Clog dressed with custom Jibbitz tied to the Pacific Northwest. Details like University of Oregon and Portland Trail Blazers logos, a TEDxPortland badge, and other playful charms give the pair a more local and personal feel. While The Roy pushes Crocs deeper into experimental territory, the Classic Clog keeps one foot in the brand’s more familiar lane.
TEDxPortland volunteers, speakers, and alumni will receive these pairs, so this collaboration is being treated as an exclusive release rather than a public drop. Still, The Roy easily feels like the bigger story here, and it would not be surprising to see Crocs give the silhouette a wider launch later this year.
Between Smith’s design background and the model’s bold shape, this one has the kind of presence that could reach beyond a one-off event.
