We’re reticent to describe it as a “fallow period,” but in the moments between New Balance’s peak in the 2010s and their current hot streak, it was the “Made in” series that kept fans coming back. Heightened materiality and restrained colorways that could be pillars of anyone’s sneaker rotation made scores of consumers reject the “dad shoe” label when it was still a pejorative. It’s only right that the Boston brand has paid off the loyalty of said devotees by keeping their most beloved models in the same sort of get-ups.
Anyone who’s seen our New Balance coverage knows that there’s never a shortage of refined tones in their catalog. And yes, while even spotlight moments like the “Grey Days” can see the Boston brand leverage those same aesthetics, this is rather clearly an “always on” sort of look. Some of the product details tip that off (the SKU in particular), but this follows in the footsteps of past essential editions with dark grey underlays and simple blocking. Rather than bringing some cutting-edge energy to the table, it’s a shoe intended to be a factor in your rotation for seasons upon seasons to come.
