The “hero to zero” story is well-trod in the world of sneakers. There are plenty of cases we could point to where a silhouette that was absolutely inescapable was quickly banished to the sale rack at the whim of style trends. The opposite is far rarer, but a retro-focused period in footwear has meant that plenty of forgettable models from yesteryear have themselves become dominant commodities with a new contextual environment.
ASICS’ GEL-Kayano 14 has to be at the top of mind in those discussions, once a humble performance runner and now one of the defining shoes of this decade. Admirably, ASICS has been able to avoid total stagnation by keeping a measured approach when it comes to new colorways. A few new options each month feed demand without risking consumer apathy. With that in mind, there’s no real need to reinvent the wheel, so this colorway doesn’t. The usual chrome overtones are intact, with some faux-aged off-white and reliable black sprinkled in the spaces between.
The ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 “Cream” should be dropping as part of the ongoing Fall/Winter slate with the typical $160 sticker price. Catch official images below to get a sense of what’s on the way.
