Willy Chavarria hasn’t been afraid to push the envelope. From his pointed-toe Jabbars to even the controversial platformed huaraches, the renowned designer — through his robust partnership with adidas Originals — has been able to stamp his arrival into the footwear scene at large off the strength of audacity. His recent Eterno showcase at Paris Fashion Week offered a taste of future projects geared towards international football and the looming World Cup craze, bridging sports styling from the pitch with his sharp eye for couture. That same technique will be seen this week at NBA All-Star Weekend with an exclusive capsule celebrating the game of basketball.

Chavarria’s connection to Los Angeles begins with James Harden, the hoops legend who calls LA home. First previewed by the NBA all-timer over the weekend, Willy Chavarria’s adidas Harden Vol. 10 collaboration boasts a completely reworked molded upper mimicking a bed of roses, with black shadowing adding depth and dimension to the performance-ready design. A closer inspective reveals that the silver exterior contains an infinite number of colorful sparkles that reveal itself against light.

Chavarria continues to explore the cultural scene of LA with this collaboration with the Compton Cowboys, a crew that works directly with horses and utilizes equestrian culture and horseback riding to positively influence the youth of the area. This Superstar features rich suede uppers with stunning branding on the tongue. insole, and heel, but the real focus is the metal shell-toe that features Western-style patterns often seen on handkerchiefs.

Both collaborations — the adidas Harden Vol. 10 and the Compton Cowboys x Superstar Metal — will drop on February 13th exclusively in Los Angeles at the adidas x Shoe Palace x Willy Chavarria Backyard Cookout, which will also feature pop-up shops, love performances by Peso Pluma, regional inspired food, and more.
