Brain Dead has to be among the headiest of all streetwear brands, unafraid to bring entirely off-kilter takes on classic silhouettes in both apparel and footwear. In the latter category, adidas has been the sole beneficiary of that design touch over the course of the past year and change, locking down the Los Angeles imprint after their previous work with brands from Converse to ASICS, Oakley, and Reebok. Perhaps in a return to a multi-brand rolodex, Brain Dead is now issuing their first collaboration with Crocs, taking over the Trailbreak 2 and Echo Clog.
Given our preamble on Brain Dead’s unorthodox aesthetic, it won’t be a surprise that htey aren’t reaching for the “default” Classic Clog, the cornerstone in so many of the California company’s cultural efforts this decade. Instead, the streetwear company takes a page out of their Oakley Factory Team efforts and looks to the Trailbreak 2 sneaker and thee Echo Clog slip-on, either one positioned as outdoors-first branches out from the standard Crocs fare.
Both get a heavy dose of woozy, rippling patterns throuhgout their synthetic sections, with the Trailbreak 2 delivering that in everyday black and white before the Echo utilizes psychedelic deep blue coloring. Of course, no Crocs collab is complete without Jibbitz, and Brain Dead does their thing one last time by swapping out any branding emblems with blocky detachable snails.
The Crocs x Brain Dead collection releases on August 25th. The Trailbreak 2 clocks in at $120, while the Ripple clocks in at $90.
