Technical runners from the late 2000s have quietly become some of Nike’s most dependable lifestyle silhouettes. The Vomero occupies a unique space in this transition. Its segmented construction and rider-focused philosophy have lent itself to the shoe transitioning seamlessly from performance pedigree to daily trainer without sacrificing much of what made it stand out.
The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “Black/Metallic Silver” release is no different. Paying homage to its predecessors, the shoe features breathable black mesh uppers, silver accents and molding, and a tight molded TPU over the midfoot. The addition of reflective accents and cage-like plating harkens back to Nike’s running shoes of the late-2000s while a white leather swoosh maintains a friendly silhouette. Neutralizing tones with off-white laces and a Coconut Milk midsole dials back the color scheme just enough to give it a worn in feel that’s true to modern retro-runners everywhere.
Layering still does most of the visual work. The open mesh keeps the upper light and breathable, while synthetic panels and the ribbed cage add both structure and depth. Chrome-like details around the eyestays and forefoot help reinforce the era that inspired the design.
Comfort remains part of the formula. Cushlon foam works alongside Zoom Air cushioning underfoot, continuing the comfort-focused approach that defined the original Vomero series. Even with the silhouette now living mostly in lifestyle rotations, that running DNA hasn’t disappeared.
