Few moments in sneaker history carry the emotional weight of Kobe Bryant’s final season. Even fewer releases encapsulate that farewell tour quite like the Nike Kobe 11 Elite “Fade to Black”, the final sneaker drop to have occurred during the Black Mamba’s active career.
Originally released in 2016 as the closing chapter of Nike’s “Fade to Black” collection, the Kobe 11 Elite served as the final punctuation mark on Bryant’s legendary career. Dropping sixty in that farewell game only enhanced the lore, undoubtedly increasing the demand around the sneakers.

The Fade To Black series itself traced Kobe’s journey through a spectrum of all eleven signature silhouettes as well as the Huarache 2k4 and Hyperdunk, each fading into black as a symbolic sendoff. But it was the Kobe 11 Elite that carried the most meaning, representing both an ending and a lasting legacy while signaling the retirement era.
Now, nearly a decade later, that story may be revisited. Early images of a 2026 version of the Kobe 11 Elite Protro “Fade to Black” have surfaced, pointing to a potential return timed with the 10th anniversary of Bryant’s farewell game. While Nike has yet to officially confirm release details, speculation points to an April 13th launch aligning with the anniversary of Kobe’s final NBA game. Without question, there will be some sort of release coinciding with that date.
The reappearance of this particular colorway reveals wethe Protro aspect of the silhouette by way of drop-in React insoles. There’s a postcard insert and a medallion coin added as well.
We will wait on confirmation, but peep the first look images below for now.
