Spike Lee’s status in the Jordan catalog is already unparalleled: a signature in the Spiz’ike, face of perhaps the most iconic commercial series in the brand’s history, and owner of several colorways inspired by his 1989 classic, “Do the Right Thing.”
The Jordan 1, Spizike, Son of Mars, and Jordan 4 have worn coloring inspired by the film, the latter with a scuffed-up version adapting Buggin’ Out’s incensed scene from the movie’s opening. However, arguably the most lasting remains the Air Jordan 3 “Do The Right Thing,” emerging smack in the middle of the “Lifestyle” era where the Jordan Retro roster jumped far beyond its usual sporty, court-inspired palettes. To create the baby blue and yellow colorway, Beaverton designers looked not to Sal’s Pizzeria, but to the Library of Congress inductee’s top-down poster. Though falling short of the actual film’s 40th anniversary in 2029, the Air Jordan 3 “Do The Right Thing” returning in 2027 will align with the 20th anniversary of its original release.
Again, the Air Jordan 3 “Do The Right Thing” will hit shelves anew in 2027, but when within that year is unclear. For now, brush up on this pair via the images below, depicting the 2007 OGs.
