Kobe Brand has outdone itself with the upcoming Nike Kobe 4 Protro “Draft Day” pack, a sprawling collection featuring pairs for every franchise that passed on Kobe Bryant in the 1996 NBA Draft. Now there’s one more to report: a straggler inspired by the Los Angeles Lakers, the team that ultimately traded for the phenom and the one he called home for his entire NBA career.
The rest of the “Draft Day” pack sticks to a simple formula, pairing white uppers with a single accent color and insole annotations denoting each team’s draft position. The Kobe 4 Protro “Lakers” breaks from that mold, instead opting for a bold “University Gold/Fierce Purple/White” palette, leather upper, and abstract, marbled outsole.
We should note that Kobe technically went 13th overall to the Charlotte Hornets, and that franchise is still expected to receive its own “Draft Day” colorway. The pack is currently expected to release June 26th, though it’s possible this “Lakers” edition arrives separately. Keep our Sneaker Release Dates page bookmarked for updates.
