With the NFL in the rear view and the MLB only beginning to work through its 162 games, the attention of the sports world is squarely fixed on the NBA. In just the opening two days of postseason action, fans have already gotten some all-out performances, from the mayhem that was Hornets-Heat or a vintage performance from Chef Curry to keep the Dubs’ season alive.
Perhaps lost in the shuffle in the wake of the former, given an out-of-body night for Coby White and LaMelo Ball debuting a new PUMA design, was what would-be hero Davion Mitchell had on his feet as his game-winning layup attempt fell short. Though the Heat’s hopes ended in Charlotte, the former Sacramento King had a vision of the future in tow, sporting a beta version of the UA Curry Fox 3. That Curry branding might be a peripheral detail for any other shoe, but given that Steph’s break-up with Under Armour brought the industry to a halt, it’s a topline takeaway here. Reports on this prototype build already promise that upon release, the Fox 3 will instead bear a UA logo in its place.
To hit on the actual functionality shown here, the speedy upper contours from the Fox 1 and 2 stick around, this time bearing a thin stripe motif that runs from the heel to the toe. Underfoot, it appears that the Flow foam traction is intact, but the Fox 3 returns to a more traditional sole unit design, with sectioned pods resting at the fore and rear. Finally, the “Miami Vice” style gradient is an obvious match for Mitchell for this play-in debut.
So will we see the man himself follow in Davion’s footsteps? The San Antonio Spurs’ series against the Portland Trail Blazers begins on Sunday, which is almost assuredly when we’ll get an answer. For now, check out in-game shots of the next Under Armour De’Aaron Fox shoe below.
