Lapstone & Hammer brings a clear concept to its latest ASICS collaboration, using the GEL-Kayano 12.1 as the base for “The Spark.” The Philadelphia retailer builds the project around ignition, turning the 2006-inspired runner into a story about energy, movement, and ideas growing from a single starting point.
The sneaker’s material mix gives the theme its strongest detail. An open diamond knit mesh upper adds texture, while metallic silver and cream pebbled leather panels reference the look of flint striking steel. ASICS’ side stripes split between black hairy suede and cream suede, creating a layered finish with more depth than a standard retro runner.
Workwear cues also appear throughout the design. A cotton duck canvas tongue adds a rugged feel, while red hits on the GEL midsole and heel logo point back to the flame-inspired theme. Dipped lace tips resemble match heads, and each pair comes packaged with a custom matchbox to complete the concept.
Lapstone & Hammer also adds a matching apparel capsule made with USA cotton pieces and Spark-themed graphics.
