Few artworks are as recognizable as Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, a woodblock print from Japan’s Edo period that’s become one of the most ubiquitous images in the modern world. You can find it on posters, tapestries, rugs, tee shirts, damn near anything you can imagine, and now thanks to adidas, that list includes a sneaker.
The adidas Adizero EVO SL gets a grey colorway with wave-inspired graphics across the stripes, nodding to the original print while adding a pink/red gradient in the corner. Only one of the three rowboats appears on the lateral side, a detail widely read as a nod to human fragility and perseverance.
The adidas Adizero EVO SL “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” is currently on the atmos release calendar for May 15th and will likely be a Japan exclusive. For everyone else, the aftermarket is your move.
