Vans Revives The Old Skool For Dia De Los Muertos

Halloween shoes are all the rage as October is very nearly here; the Nike Basketball “Halloween” set has made that a constant through-line on our frontpage, for sure. Yet don’t sleep on the other festivities coming this October, with Dia De Los Muertos another holiday that’s dropped some notable fare on our desks over the past few years.

Vans makes a surprise entrance into the fray with a two-pack of footwear and an associated apparel collection coming that just touched down. Enlisting designer Mauro Grafias, designer of the workwear-inspired adidas Mexico jacket that made a splash earlier this year, the Mexico native leans into traditional prints across this full range. Floral patterns are a constant, with the Old Skool utilizing them to great effect; repeated geometry is stamped on the toe and etched into the suede siding. Proving that the details can really set a design apart, scalloped edges on the toe box pair with leather liners for a premium edge. The Super Lowpro follows in the sepia-toned footsteps of the Ol dSkool with many of the same material aspects for those who prefer something a bit more subtle.
