Converse SHAI 001 Lace Up Sun Ray Egret A23933C

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s swap from Converse to Nike was already one of the more interesting, unexpected stories in signature shoes in recent memory. Yet media day added a ton of fuel to the fire, not only for the MVP’s debut of a new Virgil Abloh Archive Air Force 1, but additionally for raising the possibility that his Converse SHAI 001 could plausibly become the Nike SHAI 001 before its follow-up touches down. Though he showcased a “Creamsicle” colorway of the SHAI 001 with Nike branding attached, the plot only thickens as retailer images of the same variation arrive with Converse branding attached.

Officially titled the Converse SHAI 001 “Sun Ray/Egret,” the main focus here is the heel section, ditching Nike spell-out text that the Finals MVP showcased in favor of the default Star logo. On this latest take on the lace-up build, sunny orange coats the exterior before white trim attaches to the collar and the lace unit. Even as we’ve gotten used to two-tone colorways and beyond via the “Cheetah” or “Black/Green Beam,” still this demonstrates novel blocking opportunities for the closing chapter of SGA’s Converse era.

The Converse SHAI 001 “Sun Ray” / “Creamsicle” is already available via select retailers overseas. Wide/official launch details haven’t yet been announced, but you can expect the standard $130 retail price for this pair upon arrival.
