Move over Kawhi, you’ve got company. New Balance Basketball has officially added another name to its signature roster, using NBA Play-In Tournament stage to debut Tyrese Maxey’s first sneaker: the New Balance Maxey v1.
The honor is well deserved. Maxey is one of the best young guards in the game, already a two-time All-Star and Most Improved Player at just 25 years old. New Balance struck at the right time, signing the Kentucky alum to an endorsement deal just weeks before his first All-Star selection in 2023. Maxey announced a signature shoe at the start of 2026, and now, only months later, it’s here.
The New Balance Maxey v1 draws inspiration from two models, borrowing the abstract design language of the New Balance 9060 and top lacing system of the 2002. No performance specs have been confirmed yet, but it’s safe to assume the model carries the same guard-first benefits found in the brand’s Hesi Low and TWO WXY lines – both of which Maxey has leaned on to this point (though they could now be phased out).
“I wanted my shoe to have an iconic look that you don’t need to see the ‘N’ to know it’s a New Balance shoe,” says Maxey. “To me, the 9060 is a classic NB silhouette, so I pulled a lot of inspiration from that to bring lifestyle to the basketball court. I worked really closely with the New Balance product team to make sure the shoe looks good and feels good on and off the court. I’m really excited for people to test it out!”
The New Balance Maxey v1 is set to launch later this year for $130. See detailed images below and keep our Sneaker Release Dates page handy for updates.
