Salehe Bembury’s PUMA Velum NITRO “Akita” design is simplistic, allowing the colorways to speak for itself. Inspired by the Japanese breed of dog, the colorways revolves around rich tan-browns that reference the Akita’s shaggy fur without being overly literal.
The Salehe Bembury x PUMA Velum NITRO “Akita” will launch on June 4, 2026 via PUMA.com, along with select retailers. It will retail for $160 USD and will be released in unisex sizing.
Tan leather is featured all over the upper before cutting sections out to reveal mesh inside. A breathable touch. The traditional side Formstrip received an application of graphical treatment to mimic the effects of being broken in and worn, helping give this otherwise-muted silhouette one of its Salehe signatures.
Beyond that, the Velum NITRO still boasts a distinct presence of its own. From its sculpted midsole that helps cement Bembury’s penchant for natural designs to its use of darker brown outsole rubber to help create contrast. The heel and outsole carry Salehe Bembury branding.
This “Akita” colorway is muted down rather than turned up to 11. For what this collaboration is going for, it works. The dog-inspired color palette, technical accents, and treated Formstrip work together to tell the story of this release while highlighting what makes the Velum NITRO great.
