The METAGIRL x Vans Old Skool 36 “Diva” brings a custom-heavy attitude to one of Vans’ most recognizable skate silhouettes. Designed by Caterina Mongillo, better known as METAGIRL, the collaboration releases May 28th on Vans.com for $160 USD.
The shoe starts with a classic black-and-white Old Skool 36 base, but very little about the final look feels basic. METAGIRL adds a layered mix of canvas, snakeskin-textured overlays, contrast stitching, and frayed edges that give the pair a worn-in, dressed-up feel without losing the model’s skate roots.
A crystal-covered midfoot strap delivers the loudest detail, wrapping the shoe with oversized gold hardware that feels more like a belt buckle than a standard sneaker accent. Gold studs continue across the white midsole and Sidestripe, while the torn fabric edge around the stripe adds more texture to the black upper.
The design leans into the same DIY fashion language that helped METAGIRL build her name, but this Vans release feels easier to read at first glance. Her Saucony Paramount “Daughter of the Moon” project carried a heavier story, while the Old Skool 36 “Diva” gets straight to the point with hardware, shine, distressing, and attitude.
