If Joe Freshgoods and Action Bronson somehow didn’t constitute enough star power for the New Balance 1890, recent developments have further placed the mashup formulation in the spotlight. Stone Island and JJJJound added to a show-stopping lineup as the model continues to make its introduction, while the original 2002 platform htat it utilizes made a surprise appearance on a brand-new KITH-led sneaker teased by Ronnie Fieg himself.
Yet underlining all of those headlines is the fact that these collabs can’t last forever; if the 1890 is to really capture staying power, it’ll need to knock out some solid inline options. To be sure, the “Grey Days” colorway has been well-regarded among the NB devotees, but a “Linen” edition now coming to light doubles down on those same strengths. Phrased more straightforwardly, this marks the first truly monochromatic look for the runner and demonstrates an ability to take to the Boston brand’s patented neutrals, withnn some slight chrome interruptions adding to the retro sensibilities that already pace its hardware.
A concrete date for the New Balance 1890 “Linen” hasn’t come down just yet, but expect this pair to factor into the brand’s Summer/Fall lineup. The silhouette’s standard $180 retail price is expected.
