adidas is bringing Climacool back into the spotlight at the World Cup, but not as a regular sneaker release. The new adidas Climacool System is built around athlete recovery, pairing cooling apparel with an overshoe designed to help footballers deal with heat during matches and training.
The idea comes from motorsports, where athletes deal with high temperatures and need fast cooldown options between intense sessions. That background fits the setting, with the World Cup taking place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada during the summer.
A frozen gel vest anchors the system. Once worn, it helps cool the athlete’s body, while a shell jacket works as a protective layer to keep outside heat from cutting into the effect.
Footwear gets pulled into the setup through the Climacool Overshoe. Instead of replacing a football boot, it zips over one and uses the same gel-based cooling approach. adidas says the overshoe can lower foot temperature by 2°C in seven minutes.
adidas-sponsored World Cup players are expected to receive the Climacool System, so it should be visible around benches, training sessions, and recovery areas during the tournament. For now, adidas has not announced a public release.
Climacool has long been tied to airflow and temperature control, but this rollout takes the name somewhere more specialized.
