Not everyone lucky enough to land a sneaker deal actually loves sneakers, and anyone who’s been collecting long enough can spot the difference from a mile away. For our purposes, Westside Gunn is clearly someone who respects the art of the craft, and that comes through as strongly as ever in his latest Saucony release.
Westside Gunn has officially debuted the Saucony Grid Jazz 9 “Awesome Gods” on his Instagram, a rich, loud combination of animal prints both traditional and colorful. Two key references stand behind the design, Westside citing Jeremy Scott’s body of adidas work and atmos’s various Nike Air Max releases as inspiration. Cheetah, zebra, cow, and additional faux pony hair placements are scattered throughout, including multicolor pink and yellow fabrics on the Saucony logos, tongue, backtab, and toe box. Griselda’s scorpion motif appears on the heel, insoles, and hangtag, while leather moccasin laces add even more character. Even if these are too loud for your taste, you’ve gotta respect the vision.
