ittsburgh’s City Connect identity is making its way onto the Air Max 1 with a Pirates-inspired colorway built around black, red, and gold. The design pulls from the team’s alternate uniform, using a dark base, bold red laces, and a textured Swoosh that gives the pair one of its strongest details.
A black upper carries most of the visual weight, while red trim outlines the Swoosh and runs through the lace setup to sharpen the contrast. Gold accents are still present, but they play a secondary role here, letting the red details stand out more than usual for a Pirates-inspired look.
A striped, chenille-style Swoosh adds texture and brings a unique twist to the design, likely referencing elements from the team’s updated Jolly Roger branding. Pirates hits appear across the tongue, heel, and insoles, tying the shoe directly back to the jersey that inspired it.
A speckled midsole gives the pair a slightly aged finish, while red hits on the outsole complete the look.
The Nike Air Max 1 “Pittsburgh Pirates City Connect” is currently available via raffle through Social Status, with a wider release expected through select boutiques, team stores, and retailers connected to each MLB market.
