Nike and Sabrina Ionescu are in legacy-building mode. Though figures like LeBron outrank them in tenure and silhouettes like the Caitlin 1 or an eventual Wemby 1 may attract more eyes, the Liberty sniper and Ja Morant are truly the red meat of the Nike Basketball catalog, as the Nike Sabrina 4 and Ja 4 look to replicate the best-seller and most-worn status of their predecessors.
Like most of the Swoosh’s athletes, Sabrina Ionescu has put her personal stories on display throughout her series, from representing the Liberty’s Ellie the Elephant to her twin brother Eddie on the Sabrina 3. We return to the hardwood for the “Superstition” Sabrina 4, almost assuredly deriving its title from the highly regimented shooting routines that she sticks to in both training and pre-game warmups. One of her strongest-held superstitions is that she won’t leave the court before a game until she drains a half-court shot.
The colorway itself is an ultra-vibrant one, highlighted by a tri-tone gradient between Liberty green, royal blue, and metallic purple that plays out both in the outsoles and in the Swoosh. In the upper and the spaces between overall, “Pale Purple” sets the foundation, delivering a blast of pastels that’s both subtle and flashy enough to fit Sabrina’s game.
The Nike Sabrina 4 “Superstition” drops on September 9th, retailing for $135.
