A BATHING APE is pulling the BAPE STA back into its early-2000s lane for the model’s 25th anniversary. Four original colorways return May 16th through BAPE.com and BAPE STORE locations worldwide.
The release includes the Red/Blue/Yellow pair, the Green/Yellow version, the “Coffee Brown” makeup with pink side panels, and the pastel “Sax Pink” colorway from 2004. Glossy patent leather does most of the heavy lifting here, paired with loud blocking and oversized BAPE branding that still reads straight from the NIGO era.
Cassidy helped put two of these pairs into the wider sneaker conversation before social media became the main stage. The Red/Blue/Yellow colorway appeared in “Hotel,” while the “Sax Pink” pair showed up in “Get No Better,” giving both releases a direct tie to early-2000s hip-hop visuals.
The BAPE STA has always sat close to the Nike Air Force 1, but BAPE pushed the shape into a louder space with brighter colors, heavier shine, and the star logo. That formula helped make the sneaker one of the clearer markers of early streetwear’s crossover with hip-hop.
