Inspired by Kobe Bryant’s lifelong love for “the beautiful game,” the “Mambacurial” Kobe 8 is back on shelves in Protro form thirteen years after its original release. To little surprise, the retro is damn near identical to the 2013 pair, visually the same but with hidden performance upgrades, namely a swap from the Lunarlon midsole to more durable Nike React foam.
The colorway specifically references the Nike Mercurial Vapor 9 “Fireberry,” which also dropped in 2013, pairing a pink upper with green soles and oversized white Nike branding across the medial side. A few months ago we uncovered a Mercurial Superfly 11 Elite in a matching “Mambacurial” colorway, a football boot inspired by a basketball shoe inspired by a football boot, if you can keep up. That cleat doesn’t have a hard release date yet, but Nike is also dropping a “Mambacurial” basketball for $150 alongside the shoes (shown HERE).
