Devin Booker gave his father Melvin an amazing Father’s Day gift this year by switching his NBA jersey number from 1 to 15, the same number his old man wore during his standout college career at Mizzou and the number Book has donned during his Olympics appearances. Book recently posted his new jersey to his Instagram story with a link for fans to cop, but our attention went straight to the sneakers he cleverly teased in the background. The Phoenix Suns star is continuing to tribute Nike sneaker icons through his signature line, here debuting a never-before-seen Book 2 inspired by the “Eggplant” Foams.

Regular readers will recall this isn’t the first Foamposite-inspired Book 2 we’ve seen, preceded by an orange “Suns” colorway Book showed off while jetsetting last month. This one is extra special due to being a direct tribute to a specific sneaker. The “Eggplant” Foamposite One originally released in 2009 to a rousing reception, largely helping ignite the model’s best era in the years that followed. The Book 2 here forgoes its usual Spiridon tooling in favor of a matte purple shell, featuring a molded construction rather than independent materials for the mudguard and lace ribbons.

Additionally, the Air Foamposite One has a legacy in Arizona; in 1997, Mike Bibby of the Wildcats was first to debut the sneaker before it got largely attributed to Penny Hardaway.

The Nike Book 2 “Eggplant Foamposite” releases August 10th, 2026 for $155 in men’s sizes via Nike SNKRS and select retailers. We’ll circle back as soon as official images become available.
